For most Lee's Summit addresses, Jackson County Public Health is the right office. If you are unsure which county applies to your address, look at your property tax records or voter registration. They show your county of residence. Jackson County covers the majority of the city, including all the main developed areas near downtown Lee's Summit.
The Cass County health department serves residents in the southern portion of Lee's Summit that falls within Cass County limits. The Jackson County office cannot issue records for events registered under Cass County jurisdiction.

The Missouri State Archives has historical records, and the Missouri Digital Heritage database has pre-state indexed birth records from the area. The Kansas City Historical Society's genealogy collection also covers Jackson County births from the 1870s forward.
The Jackson County courthouse also holds older county records that may include birth registrations from before the state system started.
