Requesting Newton County Birth Certificates

You can get a Newton County birth certificate in person, by mail, or online through VitalChek. In-person requests at the Newton County Health Department are usually processed the same day. Bring a valid photo ID and $15 in cash or check.

Mail requests go to the health department at 417 E. Clover St., Neosho, MO 64850. Your letter needs to include the full name on the birth record, date of birth, place of birth, parents' names (including mother's maiden name), your relationship to the person named, and your contact information. Attach a photocopy of your photo ID and a check or money order for $15 made payable to Newton County Health Department. Allow two to four weeks for mail requests.

Who Can Request Newton County Birth Records

Missouri law controls who can get a certified birth certificate. RSMo 193.245 lists authorized requesters. You can request your own record. Parents named on the certificate can get it. So can spouses, adult children, siblings, legal guardians, and attorneys or legal representatives with proof of authority.

Employers, landlords, and other third parties cannot get certified copies unless they have a court order. Birth records that are 100 or more years old are open to the public for genealogy research. Newer records stay restricted.

Newton County Birth Certificate Fees

The fee is $15 per certified copy of a birth certificate. If you need more than one copy from the same order, additional copies cost $11 each under RSMo 193.265. Fees are non-refundable regardless of whether a record is found. Order through VitalChek and you will pay an extra service charge in addition to the $15 fee.

Pay by check or money order for mail requests. In person, most county offices accept cash and checks. Do not send cash by mail.
