Jasper County Health Department Birth Records

The Jasper County Health Department at 105 Lincoln in Carthage is the local vital records office. It has a computer downlink connection to the Missouri Department of Health vital records system in Jefferson City. This allows the office to pull any Missouri birth record from 1920 forward and print a certified copy on site. You do not need to contact the state office for records in that date range.

Jasper County accepts cash, personal check, credit card, and money order. This is more payment flexibility than some rural Missouri counties. Same-day service is standard for in-person requests at the Carthage office.

Jasper County Recorder of Deeds

The Jasper County Recorder of Deeds in Carthage maintains some older county records and documents. How to Get a Jasper County Birth Certificate

In person at the Carthage health department is the fastest route. Bring ID, pay $15, and your certificate is printed while you wait. The office accepts cash, check, credit card, and money orders, which makes payment easy.

By mail, send a written request with the full name, date and place of birth, and parents' names. Include a copy of your photo ID and a check or money order for $15 made out to the Jasper County Health Department. Do not mail cash. Mail requests typically take one to three weeks.

Online requests go through VitalChek, Missouri's state-approved online service. VitalChek accepts debit and credit cards and ships records by mail. A convenience fee applies on top of the $15 base rate.

Who Can Request Jasper County Birth Records

Missouri restricts certified birth records to people with a direct interest under RSMo 193.245. Eligible requesters include:

  • The person named on the certificate (18 or older)
  • A parent listed on the birth record
  • A legal guardian with court documentation
  • A spouse, child, or sibling of the person named
  • An attorney acting for an eligible family member
  • A court-authorized representative

Others can request an informational copy. It shows the same birth data but is stamped "not valid for legal purposes." You cannot use it for passports or official government needs.

Note: All requesters must present valid photo ID. Two alternate forms of identification with your name are accepted if you have no photo ID.

Jasper County Birth Certificate Fees

Birth certificates cost $15 each. Additional copies ordered at the same time are $11 per copy. Death certificates follow a separate fee schedule: $14 for the first copy and $11 for each additional. Missouri's fee authority is in RSMo 193.265.
