In-person requests at the Nodaway County Health Department are the fastest option. Bring a valid photo ID and $15. Staff can often process requests the same day. Call (660) 582-2913 before visiting to confirm records are available and to ask about current hours.

To mail a request, write a letter with the full name on the birth record, date of birth, place of birth, parents' names including mother's maiden name, your relationship to the person, and your return mailing address. Attach a photocopy of your photo ID. Include a check or money order for $15 payable to Nodaway County Health Department. Mail to P.O. Box 376, Maryville, MO 64468. Allow two to four weeks for processing by mail.

For online orders, use VitalChek. VitalChek processes requests for Missouri vital records offices and charges an additional service fee beyond the $15 base fee. Who Can Get Nodaway County Birth Records

Certified birth certificates are restricted. RSMo 193.245 defines who may request them. The person named on the record can request their own certificate. Parents listed on the certificate can get a copy. Spouses, adult children, siblings, legal guardians, and legal representatives with documented authority can also request records.

Third parties without a direct relationship cannot get certified copies unless a court order is involved. Birth records that are 100 or more years old are public records and anyone can request them for genealogy research. Check with the Missouri State Archives for older records.

If you are uncertain whether you qualify, call the health department or the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records at (573) 751-6387 before sending your request and payment.
